How to use Qsync Client?

Qsync Client

This applies to the following application versions (and later): Qsync Client 4.5.0 for Windows and Qsync Client 3.6.0 for Mac.

Qsync Client is the Qsync computer application that lets you sync files and folders stored on your NAS with multiple client devices. Go to the QNAP Utilities to download Qsync for your client device.

Main Page

The Main Page displays the list of added NAS devices as well as the status and synchronization information of each one. On this page, you can also configure synchronization, sharing, folder pairing, connection, and log settings.

Displays all added NAS devices and their statuses. You can right-click a NAS to pause or resume synchronization or remove it from the list.

Note:

Adding multiple NAS devices are only available on Qsync Client for Windows.

  1. Right-click a NAS.

  2. Select one of three options.

    • Remove NAS: Qsync removes the NAS and retains the local files and folders based on your preference.

      Note:

      Removing a NAS from the list stops all synchronization tasks between the NAS and your client device.

    • Pause syncing: Qsync pauses all synchronization tasks on your client device.

    • Sync with NAS now: Qsync synchronizes the paired folders on your client device with the NAS.

Adds a NAS

Note:

This option is currently only available on Qsync for Windows.

Click to add a NAS to the list.

The Welcome to Qsync window opens.

Pauses all tasks or resumes synchronization for all NAS devices on the list.

Note:

This option is currently only available on Qsync for Windows.

Click to pause or resume synchronization for all NAS devices on the list.

Views your synchronization logs.

Note:

This option is currently only available on Qsync for Windows.

Modifies Qsync Client application settings.

Click Settings to modify any of the following Qsync Client application settings.

  • Proxy settings allow you to manually specify a proxy server or let Qsync automatically detect proxy settings. For details, see Configuring Proxy Settings.

  • Personal settings allow you to set a preferred language and region, modify startup settings, and specify a default folder for automatic importing of photos and videos from USB devices. For details, see Configuring Personal Settings.

  • Advanced settings allow you to enable options like desktop notifications, debug logs, and LAN sync. For details, see Configuring Advanced Settings.

Provides a list of options to help you use the application.

  1. Click Help.

  2. Select one of three options.

    • Quick Start

      The Quick Start window opens.

    • Qsync Help

      The Qsync Help page opens.

    • QNAP Helpdesk

      The QNAP Customer Service page opens.

Views the software version.

Click About.

Modifies the NAS connection settings.

Click to modify the NAS connection settings. For details, see Modifying NAS Connection Settings.

Tests your internet and NAS connection.

  1. Click .

    The Connection Test window appears.

  2. Click Start.

Modifies Qsync settings on the NAS.

Click to modify the following Qsync settings.

  • Synchronization settings such as smart delete allow you to retain files on the NAS even if you delete local copies on client devices. For details, see Configuring Synchronization Settings.

  • Policy settings allow you to configure rules that Qsync will follow when resolving synchronization conflicts, sharing team folders, filtering files, and creating thumbnails. For details, see Configuring Policy Settings.

If Central Configuration Mode is enabled in Qsync Central, you cannot modify these settings on the Qsync client. For details, see Management Settings.

Views a list of paired folders.

  1. Click .

    A list of paired folders appears.

  2. Click a paired folder to open it on your client device.

  1. Click .

  2. Select one of three options.

    • Remove NAS: Qsync removes the NAS and retains the local files and folders based on your preference.

Sharing Center

The Sharing Center screen allows you to view and manage your team folders and shared links.

Managing Team Folders

You can access the Team Folder window to view shared team folders that you either shared or others shared with you. For details, see Sharing Team Folders.

On this screen, you can choose to accept or reject the team folders other people have shared with you. For team folders that you shared, you can either unshare it or modify the users with access to it.

  1. Open Qsync Client, and then click Sharing Center.

    To view team folders shared with you, click Shared with me.

    The Sharing Center window opens.

  2. Perform one of the following tasks.

      The Sharing Status window appears.

    Modifies the team folder users.

    1. Identify the team folder you want to modify.

    4. Click Apply.

    Unshares the team folder.

    1. Identify the team folder you want to unshare.

    2. Click .

      A confirmation message appears.

    3. Click Yes.

Managing Shared Links

The Share Link window displays the list of all shared file and folder links. You can copy or delete a shared link. For details on how to create a share link, see the QTS User Guide.

  1. Open Qsync Client, and then click Sharing Center.

    The Sharing Center window opens.

  2. Click Share Link.
  3. Perform one of the following tasks.

    1. Identify the file or folder link you want to share.

    2. Click .

      Qsync copies the link.

    Deletes a share link.

    1. Identify the file or folder link you want to delete.

    2. Click .

      A confirmation message appears.

    3. Click Yes.

      Qsync removes the link from the list.

File Update Center

The File Update Center allows you to view all Qsync logs on the selected device. On this screen, you can search by specific file name, sort logs according to activity, or clear the list of logs.

Settings

The Settings window allows you to set modify your Qsync and NAS synchronization settings.

Configuring Proxy Settings

  1. On your client device, open Qsync.
  2. Go to Settings > Proxy.
  3. Select an option.

    Option

    No proxy

    Do not use a proxy.

    Select No proxy.

    Auto-detect

    Qsync automatically detects the proxy. QNAP recommends selecting this option.

    1. Select Auto-detect.

    2. Optional: Select Proxy server requires a password.

    3. Optional: Specify a username and password.

    Manual

    Manually configure the proxy.

    1. Select Manual.

    2. Specify a server IP address or URL.

    3. Specify the port.

    4. Optional: Select Proxy server requires a password.

    5. Optional: Specify a username and password.

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.

Configuring Personal Settings

  1. On your client device, open Qsync.
  2. Go to Settings > Personal.
  3. Optional: Select Launch Qsync at startup.
  4. Select a language.
  5. Select a region.
    Important:

    Select the correct region to ensure better connectivity.

  6. Configure the photo and video import settings.
    1. Select Import photos and videos when there are USB external devices connected.
    2. Select the default folder to save the imported files in.
  7. Click Apply.
  8. Click OK.

Configuring Advanced Settings

  1. On your client device, open Qsync.
  2. Go to Settings > Advanced.
  3. Perform any of the following actions.

    Show desktop notifications

    Appears for each Qsync activity.

    Select Show desktop notifications.

    Enable automatic updates

    Checks automatically for and notify you of software updates.

    Select Automatically check for updates.

    Enable debug log

    Records all synchronization activities between the NAS and your client device. You can download the logs to diagnose technical issues yourself or send them to QNAP Helpdesk.

    Important:

    Enabling this option may affect synchronization performance.

    Select Enable debug log.

    Optional: Click Send Logs to download the logs or click Clear Logs to clear the current debug log.

    Enable LAN sync

    Transfers the latest versions of files and folders across other client devices on the same local area network (LAN). This increases synchronization efficiency.

    This feature is currently available only on Qsync for Windows and Mac.

    Important:

    Only use LAN sync with Qsync Central versions 3.0.3 or later installed on QTS versions 4.3.4 or later.

    1. Select Enable LAN sync.

    2. Select a NAS to synchronize with.

      Note:

      This NAS selection option is currently only available on Qsync for Windows.

    Tip:

    To better secure your connection, enable Secure login in your NAS connection settings before enabling LAN sync. For details, see Modifying NAS Connection Settings.

  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.

    Qsync performs the specified option.

Modifying NAS Connection Settings

  1. Open Qsync on your client device.
  2. Click the NAS you want to modify on the device list.

    The NAS details appear.

  3. Click .

    The Edit Connection window appears.

  4. Modify any of the following information.
    1. Specify the NAS.

      Method

      Use IP address

      Specify the NAS IP address.

      Tip:

      If the port used for the NAS connection changes, append the port number to the IP address. The default port number is 8080.

      Search via LAN

      Note:

      This option is currently only available on Qsync for Windows and Ubuntu.

      1. From the Search NAS dropdown menu, select via LAN.

        The Search NAS window opens.

      2. Select the NAS from the list.

      3. Click Select.

      Search via QID

      Note:

      This option is currently available only on Qsync for Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu.

      1. From the Search NAS dropdown menu, select via QID.

        The Log in to myQNAPcloud window opens.

      2. Specify your email address and password.

      3. Click Sign in.

        The Search NAS window opens.

      4. Select the NAS from the list.

      5. Click Select.

    2. Specify your NAS username and password.
    3. Select Secure login.
    4. Select Automatically select the best connection method.

      QNAP recommends selecting this option.

    5. Specify a client name.

      Use only the following characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, dash (-).

      This client name will appear on the list of devices in Qsync Central.

  5. Click OK.

    A notification message appears.

  6. Click Yes.

    Qsync applies the changes and reconnects the device.

Configuring Synchronization Settings

If Central Configuration Mode is enabled in Qsync Central, you cannot modify these settings on the Qsync client unless you are an administrator. For details, see Management Settings.

  1. Open Qsync on your client device.
  2. Click the NAS you want to modify on the device list.

    The NAS details appear.

  3. Click .

    The Settings screen appears.

  4. Click Sync.
  5. Select Do not remove any file on the NAS during synchronization.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK.

    Qsync applies the selected option, and the Settings window closes.

Configuring Policy Settings

If Central Configuration Mode is enabled in Qsync Central, you cannot modify these settings on the Qsync client. For details, see Management Settings.

  1. Open Qsync on your client device.
  2. Click the NAS you want to modify on the device list.

    The NAS details appear.

  3. Click .

    The Settings screen appears.

  4. Click Policy.
  5. Under Conflict Policies, select an option you want Qsync to take when synchronizing identical files or folders.
    • Let me decide for each file

    • Rename files on the NAS

    • Rename local files

    • Replace files on the NAS with local files

    • Replace local files with files on the NAS

  6. Under Sharing Policies, select an option.
    • Accept shared files automatically

    • Always reject sharing

    • Notify me after sharing occurs

  7. Modify the filter settings.

    Qsync skips files based on these settings.

    1. Click Filter Settings.

      The Filter Settings screen appears.

    2. Perform any of the following tasks.

      Use default keywords.

      Click Default.

      Remove a keyword.

      1. Select a keyword.

      2. Click -.

      Add a keyword.

      1. Click +.

      2. Specify a keyword to filter.

        Tip:
        • Use an asterisk (*) before or after the keyword to signify a variable.

        • Refer to the table below for the accepted formats.

    3. Choose to filter specific files or file extensions.

  8. Select Create picture thumbnails.

    Creating thumbnails on the local drive before uploading files saves NAS system resources.

  9. Click Apply.

    Qsync applies the selected options, and the Settings window closes.
